Procurement
Our livestock team is responsible for making sure we are always supplied with the best quality stock to meet our customer orders and shipment deadlines. This means having a team who work with and know the country’s farmers.
Buying animals in a competitive procurement environment requires a keen sense of current market conditions as well as careful co-ordination with Greenlea’s marketing and operations teams. Our livestock field team has a wealth of experience and have built close relationships with many of our suppliers.
Because New Zealand cattle are reared year round on pasture, a farmer’s decision to sell is made on the day, depending on grass availability, the condition of the stock and the current market price. Livestock purchases can be entered into the company’s integrated system from the farm using wireless and mobile technology and within 48 hours, the farmer will have weights and prices so they know just how much they’ve returned from their sale.
These information systems also mean that all stock, all shipments and every product can be traced back to the farm it came from. This trace back capability provides customers around the globe with a peace of mind security of Greenlea’s commitment to food safety.
